Apartment Casa Dicastirio (367) Muro Leccese 8

Layout:
3 double bedrooms + 1 twin bedroom, 3 shower rooms

Typical house of Salento, nestled in the beautiful historic centre of the old town of Muro Leccese, at around 15 km from Otranto and Castro Marina. It has 4 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with shower, fully equipped kitchen, living/dining area, inner courtyard provided with stone sofas and with a small pool, 3 furnished terraces. The restoration works were carefully directed at preserving and enhancing the original architectural characteristics. Hence, features as barrel vaults, walls, fireplaces and shelves all in “pietra leccese” (the local traditional building material) have been brought to new life. The interior décor has a traditional taste, with some well picked-up pieces of a more contemporary touch.

The house is organized on different levels, so that it also has three terraces linked to one another. All outdoor areas are fitted with stone sofas in “pietra leccese”, and furnished with sunbeds and beach-umbrellas. The highest terrace furnished with a wide oriental carpet and some comfortable cushions, and overlooking the historic centre of the town and the beautiful main square with two Baroque churches, is a charming spot for a drink under the sky of a summer sunset. Another salient feature of the house is its small pool in the courtyard, that was once used as outdoor bathtub; more than 2 mt deep, long and wide, it offers a refreshing corner in the hottest days of summer.

An entrance hall makes way to a spacious living room and to a small passageway, from which to access one double bedroom and one bathroom with shower, and the inner courtyard. The latter is somehow the fulcrum of the house, overlooked by the big barrel-vaulted kitchen with fireplace, the aforementioned bedroom and the stone staircase leading to the upper rooftops. The living room is very spacious and exhibits a wide barrel vault and an entire wall side made of “pietra leccese; adjoined to this space, there is the dining area with 8/10 seat table, presenting the same architectural characteristics. From here, one then enters the fully fitted kitchen (stoves, fridge, oven, dishwasher), with a 6/8 seat table and an ancient fireplace.
The bedrooms are placed in different parts of the house, allowing extra privacy. Two of them, one double and one twin bedroom –both very spacious and with star vaults- are adjoined to each other and share a bathroom with shower, which makes them suited to a family with kids. The master bedroom, with fireplace and en-suite bathroom, is on the first floor and overlooks one the terraces. The last double bedroom is the one located on the ground floor near the entrance.

NOTES: the house is structured so that the inner courtyard serves as passageway to all parts of the whole. In particular, the double bedroom on the first floor is accessible only from an outdoor staircase passing first through a furnished terrace. Whereas, as mentioned earlier, two bedrooms on the ground floor are linked to one other, so that it is necessary to walk through the double bedroom to get to the twin one, and further on to the bathroom with shower.

FACILITIES: air conditioning in 2 bedrooms, ceiling fans in the other 2. Central heating system. Washing machine, dishwasher. 2 TV. Fireplace in the kitchen. Inner courtyard with pool (2,20m*2,20m), 3 furnished terraces.

Guide of Apulia - In the southern of Salento

Gallipoli between history and art The itinerary begins with Gallipoli (from the Greek Kale polis, beautiful place).  It has an oriental look and is white, reminiscent of a town on the Cicladi islands. The town juts out into the sea with a promontory and a little island joined to the mainland by a bridge. It is known for its oil, its wine and its fish, while in recent years it ...

Santa Maria di Leuca From Ugento, still moving southwards, we come to Santa Maria di Leuca the outermost limit of Italy, where the waters of the Adriatic meet those of the Ionian Sea. On a clear day the dividing line between them is visible. Santa Maria is charming with its Moorish villas, which are set off by the white cliffs, and with its succession of grottos which ...
