Casa a Corte

House / area of Santa Maria di Leuca / Santa Maria di Leuca

people   bagno 2 double bedrooms, 1 mezzanine twin bedroom; 3 bathrooms

Concealed in the maze of the tiny streets of the old town of Morciano di Leuca, Casa a Corte is a charming ancient house fully restored that makes the perfect accommodation for those seeking the peace and quiet of a small Southern-Italian village, while also being at a few-minute drive from the splendid sea of Santa Maria di Leuca or the sandy beaches of “Le Maldive del Salento”. The property is a typical ancient building with an inner courtyard with a little garden, dry-stone or lime-coated walls, staircases leading to various balconies and up to the roof-top solarium overlooking the old town; the interior is characterized by star-vaulted ceilings and by a tasteful blend of vintage and modern décor.

Outside there is a cosy shaded courtyard furnished with an outdoor dining table, allowing to enjoy lunch or dinner al fresco, with the parfums of the aromatic plants of the garden. From here, a staircase leads up to the roof-top terrace with pergola, equipped with chairs and deckchairs.

Inside, the house is mainly built on the ground-floor, with the exception of a mezzanine accessible from the dining room, and the slightly lower living room. The dining room (provided with a 6-seat table) works as passageway to the other rooms. First, an iron staircase climbs to the mezzanine, where there are two single beds, a very nice shower room, and an exit door onto a balcony from which one can go up to the main solarium. Again downstairs in the dining room, with one’s back at the courtyard, the house is so organized: on the right, one goes through a small space with fireplace to then get into the fully-equipped kitchen, with an adjoined shower room; straight ahead one gains access to a double bedroom with en-suite shower room (FIY: the shower room is not a separate self-contained room, but it consists of an inner area delimited by short walls and curtains, with the washbasin placed on the opposite side as it has been created out of a preexisting recess in the wall); on the left, a few steps make way to the living room, consisting of two parts: the first part provided with a double sofa-bed, the second part, brightened up by a wide glass window overlooking the street, is the proper living space, with a spacious comfortable sofa and a TV. This area has been turned out from the ancient stable of the building -as the two beautiful stone troughs show- where there was also a stone oven for baking bread, which still functions today.
